9 years old (2010) 16.3HH (home measured), Stdbrd Gelding.
Prior to harness racing this big boy did a lot of gerneral riding & hacking. Spending time on a Qtwn high country station with plenty of hills & river crossing, he even helped move cattle & sheep a few times. In early 2016 was registered with ESNZ successfully completing 4 x 40km Endurance rides. He resumed harness racing training in late 2016, with a win & a 2nd, before retiring back to riding in Nov 2018. Due to owner injuries (not caused by him) he has done very little in the past 12 mths. In Feb 2020 after pulling back out of the paddock, & after a hand full of rides he made his show debut taking Reserve Champion Ridden Standardbred in a combined Beginner/Intermediate class!
Due to my ongoing back problems he is too large for me, and so is looking for (hopefully a forever) new home where he can be enjoyed to do a variety of things. This includes of course general riding and hacking, trail &/or endurance rides (he has amazing heart rates), & showing seems to be his new thing. I can’t see any reason why he couldn’t learn to jump with the right instructor, we’ve done a little training with trotting poles and he was keen & accepting. He has also been taught to lunge.
Easy to catch, shoe, worm, self loads on the float, good traveller. Ties up well, can be led from moving vechicle/quad bike. Tetanus Vaccinated.
Currently just returning to work, so still a bit unbalance under saddle at this stage. Will improve quickly with regular riding as he did a lot of riding under saddle in the past. He had established a nice canter when doing Endurance although this has been a little forgotten since going back to harness work, it will return with gentle regular schooling.
Asking price includes covers, bridle and a lovely well fitting fully mounted black leather 17″ Italian Freeform saddle (these saddles retail @ over NZ$4000 new).
He is a big horse & can be a bit pushy on the ground so requires a confident assertive handler. No quirks under saddle, and has recently been taking a learner rider on walking rides. Loves getting out and about doing things. Does not require regular riding. Good in company & on own. Prefer a home where he can at least see another horse or horses.
